Getting aroundTwo metro lines (M1 and M2) crossing at a single interchange station, plus an extensive tram and bus network — public transport is cheap, frequent and easy to use. The Old Town and Śródmieście centre are walkable; trams are the quickest way further out.
Where to stayOld Town — the reconstructed historic core, atmospheric but touristy and thin on nightlife; Śródmieście (City Centre) — business district around the Palace of Culture, best transport links; Praga — grittier, less renovated, the go-to for alternative bars and street art on the river's east bank
Maybe skip ifanyone expecting an intact medieval old town — nearly all of it is reconstruction, and the city is otherwise modern rather than picturesque
