August Burns Red is an American metalcore band formed in March 2003 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, while its members were still in high school. The founding lineup included guitarists JB Brubaker and Brent Rambler and drummer Matt Greiner, with early rehearsals held in a converted basement and egg house. The group's sound blends metalcore with progressive and melodic elements, and though the band was often described early on as Christian metalcore, it has since distanced itself from that label.

About August Burns Red

The band's debut, Thrill Seeker (2005), introduced its technical, breakdown-heavy style, and Messengers (2007) marked its commercial breakthrough, reaching number 81 on the Billboard 200. Subsequent albums climbed steadily higher on the chart: Leveler (2011) peaked at number 11, Found in Far Away Places (2015) reached number 9, and Phantom Anthem (2017) hit number 19. The band earned Grammy Award nominations for Best Metal Performance in 2016 for "Identity" and in 2018 for "Invisible Enemy."

Vocalist Jake Luhrs and bassist Dustin Davidson both joined in 2006, rounding out the lineup that has remained stable alongside Brubaker, Rambler, and Greiner ever since. The band has released a series of albums exploring progressively more technical and melodic songwriting, including Death Below (2023), while retaining the breakdown-driven core of its earlier metalcore sound.

August Burns Red signed to SharpTone Records in 2022 before returning to longtime label Fearless Records in 2026, with new material planned for release that year. The band's five-piece lineup of Brubaker, Rambler, Greiner, Luhrs, and Davidson continues to record and tour actively within the metalcore scene.
