About Dermot Kennedy
Kennedy's breakthrough came in February 2016 when Spotify featured two of his self-released tracks on its Discover Weekly playlist, leading to record deals with Interscope and Island Records. His debut studio album, Without Fear, released in 2019, reached number one on the Irish Albums Chart and included the singles Outnumbered, Power Over Me and Lost.
He won the RTE Choice Music Prize for Irish Song of the Year in 2022 for Better Days and released his second album, Sonder, in November of that year. His sound blends folk songwriting with hip-hop-influenced rhythms, building from quiet melodies into large-scale anthems.
His third studio album, The Weight of the Woods, released in April 2026, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, making Kennedy the first Irish artist to reach that position with three separate albums. He has also earned a Brit Awards nomination and NPR Slingshot's Best New Artist honor, and has contributed to charity releases supporting Australian bushfire relief and COVID-19 causes.
