About DJ Shadow

Shadow's 1996 debut album, Endtroducing....., built entirely from samples using an Akai MPC60 II sampler and turntables, became a landmark of the genre; Guinness World Records recognized it as the first album made entirely of samples, and Time later listed it among the 100 greatest albums of all time. Working within the orbit of the London-based Mo' Wax label, he helped define the trip-hop sound of the 1990s.

Beyond his solo catalog, which spans seven studio albums through 2023's Action Adventure, Shadow produced UNKLE's Psyence Fiction (1998), collaborated with fellow DJ Cut Chemist on a series of mixtapes, and contributed music to films including Dark Days. His productions draw on funk, rock, jazz, and soul samples layered into dense, cinematic compositions.

Live, DJ Shadow performs largely through turntablism and sampler-driven sets, translating his studio collage technique into instrumental hip-hop and electronic performances that have influenced generations of producers.
