About Kehlani

She first gained exposure at 14 as lead vocalist of the pop cover band PopLyfe, which finished fourth on the sixth season of America's Got Talent in 2011; judge Piers Morgan told her she had "real talent" but did not need the group. After PopLyfe dissolved amid contractual disputes, Kehlani released the solo mixtape Cloud 19 in 2014 to critical acclaim, followed by a second commercial mixtape in 2015 that reached number five on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and earned her first Grammy nomination.

Her studio albums have charted increasingly high on the Billboard 200: SweetSexySavage (2017) reached number three, It Was Good Until It Wasn't (2020) peaked at number two, Blue Water Road followed in 2022, and Crash arrived in 2024. Her music blends contemporary R&B, pop and hip-hop with the neo-soul influence of artists such as Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu, and she has built a reputation for candid songwriting about relationships, sexuality and motherhood.

Kehlani's single "Folded" won Grammy Awards for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, and she released a self-titled fifth studio album, Kehlani, in 2026.
