Rod Wave is the stage name of Rodarius Marcell Green, an American rapper and singer born August 27, 1998, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He spent time in juvenile detention as a teenager before turning to music with his father's encouragement, releasing his debut album, Ghetto Gospel, in 2019.

About Rod Wave

He is closely associated with "trap-soul," blending hip-hop with R&B and soul; his songs draw on personal hardship and emotional vulnerability, and critics have noted his ability to pair confessional lyrics with samples from artists such as New Edition and Paramore. His 2019 single "Heart on Ice" reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 after circulating widely online.

His subsequent albums topped the Billboard 200 with striking consistency: SoulFly (2021), Beautiful Mind (2022) and Nostalgia (2023) all debuted at number one, the last holding the top spot for two weeks and later going platinum, while Last Lap (2024) debuted at number two. Wave placed an album in the Billboard 200's top ten every year from 2019 to 2024, a run matched by few besides Taylor Swift.

He faced legal setbacks in 2024 and 2025, including weapons charges and a breach-of-contract dispute with his label, even as he continued recording and performing. A further album, Don't Look Down, is set for release in August 2026, extending a discography built largely on themes of poverty, grief and survival from his own life in St. Petersburg.
