About Urzila Carlson

Carlson became a touring fixture of the Australian and New Zealand comedy circuits, and in 2019 became the highest-selling comedian in the 33-year history of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. She has since won the festival's People's Choice Award four times (2019, 2022, 2023, 2025), received the festival's Directors' Choice/Rielly Comedy Award in 2019, and won six New Zealand Comedy Guild awards for Best Female Comedian. In 2019 she appeared in the Netflix comedy anthology series Comedians of the World, and in 2016 she published a memoir, Rolling with the Punchlines.

She is a longtime panellist on the Australian and New Zealand editions of the panel show Have You Been Paying Attention? and has appeared on 7 Days, The Masked Singer Australia, and Taskmaster New Zealand, becoming the first comedian to compete in multiple international versions of Taskmaster. Her stand-up material draws heavily on her upbringing in South Africa and her family life, delivered in a wry, self-deprecating style.

As of 2026, Carlson stars in Urzila, a comedy series produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia and the ABC network, and continues to perform stand-up internationally.
