Wisp
Wisp is the performing name of Natalie Lu, an American singer-songwriter born in 2004 and raised in the Sunset District of San Francisco. Of Thai and Taiwanese descent, she taught herself guitar and was studying computer science at San Francisco State University when she released her debut single in 2023.

About Wisp
That single, "Your Face," spread widely on social media and reached number eight on Billboard's Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, where it stayed for fifteen weeks. Critics placed her within a revival of shoegaze and its heavier offshoot nu gaze, describing a sound that blends emo intensity with pop-forward melodies, hazy distorted guitars and ethereal vocals. Consequence described her in 2024 as a leading figure in that revival.
Wisp followed her breakout single with the EP Pandora in 2024, then her debut full-length album, If Not Winter, in 2025. She has cited My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Ride, Cocteau Twins, Whirr and Deftones as influences, and has said her focus is less on how listeners perceive her than on how honestly she represents herself in each track.
She has continued to perform widely since her debut, appearing at major music festivals and supporting British band Panchiko, and has said If Not Winter carries greater vulnerability than her earlier releases. Wisp remains an emerging figure in the current shoegaze and nu-gaze scene, building on the momentum of her viral debut single.
